The Folding Art of Campfire Elevation

I can't even begin to describe the feelings of elation my Snow Peak Pack and Carry Fireplace gives me. There are those few products that absolutely nail their purpose in life, while still showcasing a well designed clean aesthetic. They're born from the ideas and experiences of adventurous minds with a passion and the right know how. A rare quality that can make your experience in the outdoors, a little too good for your liking. This is a record of the first time I took my fireplace out for a hot date. We're kayak camping along Lake Yarrunga, Morton National Park.
Staring at campfires are a magical experience enough as it is. To any outdoor admirer with an appreciation for structural engineering or even just well designed lifestyle products, this portable fire pit can and will be viewed as an artwork within an artwork.

There are three sizes, each suited to particular situations with their own set of accessories. I decided to purchase the small campfire specifically for multi-day kayak trips. The grill bridge (a must), canvas case, and small base plate were purchased separately. The grill bridge attaches onto the fireplace at varying heights altering the proximity your food or pot is from the coal/fire. Regardless of how it looks at first, the grill bridge does manage to sit securely onto the seam grooves of the fireplace. Simplicity.
It's the simple nature of Snow Peak's well thought out pit that makes it effortless. Just like how ultra-portable pocket stoves remind you that simplicity combined with ultralight engineering are a thing of functional beauty, Snow Peak's Fireplace range remind us that the modern elements of our wireless society can still produce an old world sense of Romanticism in a neatly folded package, carry case and all.
I am an avid supporter of any company willing to go through the efforts of R&D to introduce a new product and have it perform well at its intended purpose at a very reasonable price. Like a great leather jacket, or a much loved cast iron skillet, Snow Peak's Pack and Carry Fireplace if maintained well, is something you buy for your hopeful generation and theirs to hopefully come!
Note:
I have no association with Snow Peak other than being a paying customer using their products. This fireplace was purchased at full retail price by myself, and carried over in my check-in luggage from Japan!

Thank you for writing a helpful post on the Small size fireplace. Do you still find it useful and enjoyable after all this time? I am considering a small or medium size for easier transportation than the large. But am not sure if the Small is too small?

Hi A V. Thanks for the feedback.

We still very much use this fireplace to this day. Similar products have popped up on the market since this post was written, however, I find the quality of Snow Peak's product to be exceptional as our fireplace has had no issues or signs of functional wear and tear. It's developed a lovely patina over time but still functions like new.

The small size is still perfect for us as a couple (also light eaters). I'd recommend the small for groups of 1 - 3 cosy friends/family members. Larger groups would benefit from the medium should it be the only fireplace and cooking element. If you're planning to keep the fire going for longer times, the medium may be easier as you won't need to stoke it as often.

We're usually out and active during the day and only start up the fire to eat and wind down for a bit before knocking out.
